RUX has been featured in FORWARD Magazine. FORWARD is a publication of the Minnesota nonprofit Forecast Public Art that activates, inspires, and advocates for public art that advances justice, health, and human dignity.
Founded in 1978, Forecast Public Art connects artists with cities, institutions, and communities, to create socially engaged work that transforms communities and drives change.
This 8th issue of FORWARD focused on the connection between arts and civic engagement dives into the work of various initiatives that use art to drive three key civic health outcomes. The publication is guest-edited by former RUX Steering Committee member Richard Young. Young is the founder and executive director at CivicLex, a nonprofit in Lexington dedicated to strengthening civic health at the local level. Young identifies these three key outcomes as: “building civic knowledge and capacity, strengthening social cohesion and connection across difference, and, creating more responsive institutions.”
In addition to RUX, the issue delves into the work of many socially engaged arts organizations doing parallel work across the globe including: Warm Cookies of the Revolution (Denver), The People’s Budget Office (Philadelphia), The Playhouse (Northern Ireland), and more. We are so proud to see our work featured alongside that of many effective and creative changemakers who inspire us deeply.
A nationally-celebrated creative leadership program using place-based cultural exchange to develop the skills, networks, and capacity of rural and urban leaders to bridge divides and make change.
